Huge problem for McCain on the horizon?
Crooked Timber has it:
So I hear (via a prominent member of the sane Republican faction) that the word on the right side of the street is that the Republican National Committee is about to pull the plug on its joint ads with the McCain campaign, and devote its resources instead to trying to save a couple of the senators who are at serious risk of losing their seats. Now this is gossip, albeit of the high class variety; take it with the requisite pinch of salt.
Remember, McCain is in the public finance system. It’s $84 million, or $42 million a month. Some people are predicting Obama had a $100 million September. The bulk of the money McCain needed for advertising was from the RNC; McCain could give them some of the workload to stretch his $84M. If the RNC pulls the plug, that means no McCain push in late October. It means what he has is it, and he’s going to go against Obama’s monster September, and no less gigantic October.
In other words, it’s a death sentence.
